Whilst Mignola uses less scenery in his panels, colours are often used to accompany the mood or characters protrayed (i.e. Hellboy is often depicted against a red background, whilst his enemies use colder colours like white or blue). This artistic choice kind of reminds me of Morris' and Goscinny's work on 'Lucky Luke', which would often have panels coloured completely red during moments of tension.

he doesn't work on any projects from what i can tell he just pretty much draws whatever he feels like.

he does but he mostly does NSFW s*** more than his colorful stuff i think mostly because its quick and easier
