I took some classes to learn japanese then stopped and continued over the internet for the Hiragana/Katakana handwriting
I gave up after realizing that I had to learn Kanji too
too much for my body. Now I'm just watching japanese drama and reality show because everyone said it's one of the best way to learn a language (gosh they talk fast)

Counting is the most easy part... I didn't even tried to learn it >> Ichibi, niibi, sanbi, yonbii/shi, gobi, rokubi, nanabi/shichi, hachibi, kyuubit

Actually, knowing a language does not require one to be fluent in a language.

I know some Korean, in that I recognize various words, and I can read the language, but by no means am I fluent in it. Similarly as people who have gone to Spain and picked up a few words and phrases in Spanish.

"Know" in this common sense, refers to "an experience with" more so than vast comprehension and capacity. It'd be different if the question actually asked if someone is fluent, that's why when people ask "How many languages can you speak?" they will often reply "Really?! Are you fluent in all of them?"

I say this as a polyglot.

You really can't learn the language watching things because there is a lack of interaction needed for immersion based fluency. If you watch tv you'll eventually understand listening, but you'd have a hard time holding a conversation, which is the reason you learn a language!


Kiki, I'm addressing the "I know a little of japanese," which sounds to me like they're saying, "I watched anime so I know things."

That particular section is incredibly vague and 'knowing' a language could mean anything from comprehending a spoken word to being a fluent speaker.
