Bump.
Kid Icarus Uprising would have worked much better as a RPG.

That's not an "unpopular opinion"

that's "a random idea I had and wanted to post without elaborating on"

I, too, am interested in how KI:U would be better as an RPG. Care to share?

i'll put it in clearer words:
I seriously think KI Uprising was utterly frustrating, mostly on the "balanced" gameplay sakurai loves to put in his games
I'd name several issues with the game but I'm just going to focus on two in particular:
The fact that Pit gets tired after walking/running without attacking enemies. That was utter s***. I got so much game overs because I couldn't simply dodge enemies when I was at low health
The second is the fact that you have to pay in order to reach higher difficulties. And the fact that most of the money you paid to enter that difficulty is completely lost after a game over. "Luckily" the level gets easier if you choose continue. Except for the fact that pretty much the only reason anyone would pay for a higher game difficulty is to be able to complete the several challenges the game offers you, having all your effort going into waste because pit has to rest after running for a bit.
I'm perfectly sure a RPG game would never suffer from any of these gameplay issues, so the player could focus more on the story rather than in frustrating gameplay.
So, I'll phrase it again:
Kid Icarus Uprising would have been much, much less frustrating as a RPG, rather than an action adventure shooter hybrid.

Both of those issues are solved by getting good

Well, you've properly nitpicked the bad things from the RPG/Shooter Aspects of the game...

But how would it go about being an RPG? Good stories are a given, yeah, but I'm having trouble putting KI:U in forms familiar to Final Fantasy or Tales.

What features would you give it if you were its designer? Based on the existing flaws, or course.
Let the dude have their fun, Geno. I like where this is going.

Hmm... I have to admit i didn't really give it too much tought about it being a RPG, but given the sheer amount of equipment and weaponry Pit can get I think the gameplay writes itself.
Although, I think the main problem is the fact that Pit goes solo in most of his missions with the only companions that participate side to side with him pretty much just being Magnus, Dark Pit and Pyrrhon, as far as I remember. But given the fact that Sora ltd made a whole universe for a franchise that only had like 3 recurring characters (Pit, Palutena and Medusa), they could easily just make party members regarding the different armies and so on.
Btw, not that it matters, but I was refering to Rpg as the ones from the 16-bit and early 32-bit eras (FF1-FF7, Chrono Trigger, SMRPG)
I have to admit this is going way too far from the topic of opinions, though.

Well at least you elaborated on the original opinion and did it well, if I may add.

I personally thought KI:U was traaaaaaaaaaaash. I played it for two days, got a brain and sold it for a copy of Metroid Prime Hunters.
A game I actually enjoyed.

While I have said negative things about Uprising, I have to admit I enjoyed the overall game and story and even had a few laughs with some of the dialogues
it may be full of sakurai tropes like "balanced" gameplay, checklists and ab anticlimatic, shoot em up credits sequence, but it was enjoyable in some aspects.
Although, you have every right to hate the game, there's nothing I can do on the matter anyways.

That reaction is remarkably more tame than when I said this elsewhere on these forums
