Should I.. should I do anything with it? It's basically XP but more convenient.

Try making something simple with it, then decide.

I think VX is pretty good. You have your "automatic", "convenient" and "quick" building logo. ... 2003's combat style is better, however. Immensely frustrating, and long to code, however. You need to design individual weapons paths for all weapons, and the positions, it's all too long. ... Erm... Wrong section?

I prefer XP.
As you noted, the tile system for VX is horrible. XP allows for limitless tile sets whereas VX has a cap. Im not too fond of the more cartoony feel of the RTP sprites and other resources. While certain aspects such as a built-in drain mechanic and adding certain pre-set perks to gear, drew me in, i eventually stopped using it entirely and went back to XP. The stat system is a bit simplified from XP, and although the program is more user friendly by quite a bit, it ends up too simplistic on the default level. I especially didnt like the frontal view battle system
I really only think VX would ever be superior if you have a good sense for ruby-script. I hijacked VX's enemy portraits (since that much is vastly superior to XP's) and never looked back. I have 2k3 as well, and if it weren't for the fact it seems to have alot of conflicts with my OS (took several dozen tries to get a file opened..) id probably give that a shot.
