This is a thread dedicated to the discussion of music theory, songwriting, gear, as well as anything else that pertains to playing music.

It would be super cool if all the music pros here would come together to help out the newbies and grow together as musicians in our small little community :^)

Maybe we could all even do a collaboration of some sort, eventually.

I guess I'll try to kick things off.

Anybody learning/writing any songs? I've been coming up with tons of riffs on the guitar but can't seem to fit them into one cohesive piece. i.e. I can come up with maybe a verse or chorus or bridge but can't piece them together properly, or can't figure out where to go after the second verse. I've also been coming up with a lot of stuff and just playing around on the piano lately, since we got a Korg Krome 88, and have been having lots of fun with that.

On a side note: I learned to play Weird Fishes by Radiohead on guitar (by ear 8-) ), and it sounds f*** amazing through the reverb filter on my amp.

I'm picking up a midi keyboard and some other sampling equipment over the summer. My band is going to be recording a demo, and I need to get on learning this s*** ASAP. Playing around with my Korg has definitely helped a bit tho.

Does anyone know any good brands for samplers? Really looking to get into electronic music production.

if you're looking for good affordable midi keyboard, go with the alesis qx49

there are 4 pads, a bunch of knobs, phasers, mod wheel and pitch bend wheel, along with a slew of other features, so take a look at that, you can always assign stuff with the DAW to make it function like a sampler in certain ways but if you're looking for just a straight up sampler, i wouldn't know
