both can be taken away, one is physical one is not, but the games are tied to your account and therefore you own it, just like a bank account, you own money in it, despite the fact that money is not right next to you, like money you are free to use your games unless they are taken away somehow, which is a null point as physical copies can be taken away, too theft is a crime, but the reality of it all is that you no longer own that game, as it is in the possession of someone else and you cannot access it

Except If Steam shut down today, you would lose all your games Steam is going to shut down someday. You know how people still have working SNES and NES systems? And they still play their games today? Well, imagine if in place of those systems, there was a gaming service. Eventually, the service would shut down, and you wouldn't be able to play your games. Got it? Got it.

Say an SNES game breaks, and it is not playable anymore, they still own it, but it is null. Same with a steam game, you'd own it, but you wouldn't be able to play it.

But a broken cartridge can be used for alternative tasks; like a paperweight. Try doing that with a non-working downloaded game!

Looks like somebody doesn't know how to access Steam files on their computer.

Thing is, there's the possibility it won't break. There's the possibility it won't be stolen. However, with Steam, the service will eventually shut down. That's how life goes.

but a non-working downloaded game can do other tasks, too, like making you sad | | | | King Kyuubit wrote: SOMEBODY STOLE MY GAME? SHOULD I CALL THE POLICE? 1. Calm down 2. You can't always get your stolen stuff back, say you lost it a place you were visiting and you already were on the plane and you just noticed, for example no way you'd get it back

1. Why the f*** would you even have a video game with you on a plane? 2. "Travel insurance does not exist and has never existed" - you
Where the f*** do you even live if you have to worry about your video games being stolen?
Like, seriously. I live in what is generally considered to be a bad area. A bad area within a town that is generally considered to be the worst place to live in my entire country. I've never had any of my video games stolen.
What kinda s*** do you live in?

never said anything about worrying about games being stolen, my point was you can lose your physical copy just how you can lose your games on steam

and if you lose your physical copy then that is most likely your own fault for not keeping it safe whereas losing a digital copy would be the fault of the people running the service

But, a physical loss could be prevented.

you're comparing apples and oranges here losing a physical copy is your own fault losing a digital copy is the people running the service's fault it's like you're saying that being murdered and committing suicide are the same thing because you die either way

Well what if Steam implemented a way to play Steam games without Steam on its closure?
