This sounds like a good middle ground. If you leave, you're gone; tell the people who would care without mindlessly attempting to garner attention.

Most people don't leave "forever" for a "reason they can't control".

They just leave temporarily if they want to return. People who 'leave' forever are the ones who say s*** like "this forum sucks, i'm never coming back and you all suck". These are the kind of people I'd target with that, mainly. Maybe just make it a few month bans or something.

Besides, removing the section wouldn't help, they'd just go back to spamming it into the other section. Attentionwhores won't be discouraged because the right section doesn't exist, but they might just be discouraged if saying that you're "leaving forever" results in a two month ban.

Basically this, they would end up posting in others, or as we used to do back in the old times, in spam, because it was all the same thing.

I'm still against it, instead of banning for leaving, ban for making a departure topic, or warn, or, to be more fair, do it if they keep leaving and coming back.
Anywhere in the rules it could say like: "It is prohibited to make departure topics, if you feel like leaving, tell your friends through Personal Messages or write it on your signature."

And anyway, why care, just let they f*** themselves, that section doesn't count posts or anything and they are mostly just nitwits, if they wanna still make those damn topics why care? It is like saying you shouldn't say stupid things in spam section, or that they must be true or anything.

I don't care about them. But, say, if I'm going to leave for a time I don't want to be banned, BUT THEN, if there is no departure section and you're not supposed to make a departure topic, the problem is solved, nobody is banned. I don't wanna pay for those dumb people who keep spamming and coming back (unless they somehow changed their mind or solved their problems and aren't jus spamming/trolling). If it is in the rules they have no reason to bable about it.

Spamming in a section you're not suppose to spam in is a bannable offense; attention whoring is not, regardless of our readiness to make it so. I suppose that doing it in A/D would be more of a controlled environment whereas doing it in Other would be a more justified ordeal.

I think it would be best to leave specifics like that to our dear admins; at least unless asked otherwise.
