you're free to like the character but comparing him to roy is stupid for a number of reasons

one of which not yet mentioned is that roy was a clone thrown together to pad the roster whereas a lot of dev time was spent on corrin, a character mostly only present for advertising purposes who is taking the place of many more beloved & interesting characters

he has a list of potential beloved & interesting characters, in fact. probably sitting right there on his desk

also people were disappointed about roy too. he plays well but the initial reaction was a slightly less intense version of what's going on now. you can dig through the thread for this yourself

Diddy, Pac and Mega Man are the only characters that spawn items with their neutral special (and arguably Robin and Duck Hunt, kinda). Each of those moves work differently & serve entirely different functions

Fire Emblem: Awakening sold 242.000 units in its debut week in Japan (Source here) and it sold at least 454.000 copies, registered at the beginning of 2013. (Source). The latest console Zelda game, Skyward Sword, sold 195.000 copies its debut week (Source) and it managed to sell 380.000 copies in Japan (compared to the over 3 million overseas) (Source, PDF)

Now, I understand it's unfair to compare a handheld console game with a home console one. For reference, we can use the numbers from Zelda: A Link between worlds, which sold barely under 250.000 copies its debut week (Source). Please note this game was released almost a year after FE:Awakening, so the Japanese 3ds player base was much bigger at this point.

OK, I'll concede the counter point. Although I'd like to make notice that half the characters with counters in the game are NOT Fire Emblem characters (Lil Mac, Shulk, Greninja, Lucario, and now Bayonetta. And Peach now that you counted it. And Mii Swordfighter).

yeah, because sales of recent games definitely reflect popularity of the series as a whole. a game where you can marry all of your favourite anime babes sold more than a game just piggybacking off of LttP nostalgia solely because fire emblem is more popular than zelda

I was also hoping to have that song in Bayo's stage, but given the fact that the song was licensed it's understandable why it isn't there.
I think Nintendo is making me hate Fire Emblem right now, I seriously never cared so little about someone's inclusion until Corrin's trailer. It truly makes me sick to see Fire Emblem being overrepresented in smash, I get that it's popular in japan, but I'd rather have something popular in the entire world. There are plenty of franchises in smash that deserved more representation like Donkey Kong, Metroid or Kirby (metroid being debatable because Ridley is already a boss and sylux, pretty much the only character that would work well as a metroid rep, not really being a famous or popular character)
Glad to see Bayonetta in the game, though, even if I didn't vote for her.
