Can't Short Hop?

I've been having some issues doing a short hop while using the keyboard, so I can't really do any combos. I was wondering if having a controller would fix this issue and any controller you would recommend that I can just go pick up from a local store. I think one big part of this is that even when you fail to short hop, you can't hold down to make yourself not jump too high and descend faster.

You're probably pressing the jump key too long.
If you're looking for controllers, Afterglow Wired PS3 controllers can be found in any Wal-Mart and work wonders if you don't have a GC controller. If you do, though, look for the Mayflash GameCube to PC adapter. That's what the devs use. _________________    |

What I do is turn tap jump off, and use a separate key to jump. I press the jump button quickly, and because up no longer jumps I can do short hop fast fall up airs, impossible to do with tap jump on.
