It means you control as a character you created, Most of the next generation RPGs doesn't allow you to create your own character, Because the need of different 3D sprites.
There are two main RPGs:

1- Non stats RP It doesn't use stats where you only describe what your character do, It is preferred by most RPers

2- Stats RP It was used in almost all of RPGs modern or not modern, It is not very liked when playing on the forum.

How does one narrate whatever their character does while still being fair?

There are some rules to make your character fair.
They start at a low level at stat RPs mostly level 1, The highest level I saw to start with in a game was 5.
While in Non stats RPGs the character shouldn't be strong at first to be accepted with the RP master who controls what happens to the character.
The character can be strong in some non stats RPG at first but his power must be equal with the other RPers, There shouldn't be strong items at first, At least not combined with strong powers.

Second of all;

RP is an acronym for "RolePlay", which, as you may or not know, is acting out another person. Traditionally the "DM", the creator of an RP, selects a setting and plot, as well as a bio, A character sheet you fill out much like a DnD sheet. Then, the DM would make a "Opening Post", saying where the characters currently are. From there, it's just posting.

RPing can be much more difficult or much easier then creating an RP depending on what you set:

Oneliners, the most used, only complete and utter idiots who cannot type more then ten words use these. A oneliner is a post in an RP you participate in that does not extend past two lines (represented by the "Walls" of the posting area).

Then there's:

Paragraph Post, traditionally only a seasoned RPer do these, as it comes as instinct. Don't beat yourself up if you don't do these, it should come naturally, not forced.

There are several other aspects, like creativity, interaction. It may seem difficult but many overestimate it.

Personally, my suggestion is, for you; Don't RP at all. One like you, and no this is not an insult, aren't very creative or willing to make posts further then oneliners, and thus just another newbie to be stacked up and trolled for being crappy.

If you do want to Rp though, then you should wait for an RP about something you like. For instance, wait for a sonic Rp. DONT MAKE ONE!! I tried that once and it sucked.

I think that you can't judge an RP by it's base, but who made it. From your posts you're quite the idiot. Thus it was bound to fail.

I admit I once made a sonic RP, but it was doing good, until Joat of all people killed it. I would bring it back but none of the good RPers here would join it, from my knowledge. And unfortunately all my RPs die early in their life, except Dead End... now I miss Krazy...[/rant]

I didn't mean that I made a sonic rp and it failed. I meant that I wasn't very expeirienced, I made an rp, and it failed.
