elaborate on OoT

no arguments on the original but I just finished replaying OoT and I very strongly disagree

yeah really, I'd say while OoT is definitely not my favorite Zelda one if its best traits is despite being an early 3D game how great it is still to this day. It's designed amazingly well for a game that was going into a whole other dimension few games has done before.

I would say ALTTP and OOT. Then Majora's Mask.

I know better than to get into the OoT debate again

The 3D Zeldas as a whole have largely always been uninteresting to me, OoT is no exception

I have a hard time pinpointing why that is. I've tried to play it a handful of times and it stirs no emotion. I agree that it's a landmark game for sure but I would hardly say it's deserving of its praise

It's largely subjective, but I can't in good conscience recommend a game I don't enjoy myself. I did enjoy Wind Waker, for what it's worth.

Don't take this the wrong way, but out of curiosity - of the people that really love OoT reading this post, how many of you didn't play the game as kids?

Your argument is just "I don't like the game", not "it didn't age well"

Fair enough.

Not that there are any valid answers to his question anyway. There are no Zeldas like Breath of the Wild. Everything people suggest here is pretty much just them encouraging him to play their favorites

a link to the past is probably the game to play before anything else though, simply because it's where so many things about the series started. first game with the master sword, actual themed dungeons with proper puzzles, piece of heart sidequests, a lot of the reoccurring music, etc.

i also definitely recommend giving the original a try, it and breath of the wild are the only ones that have that sense of freedom where you go around discovering things for yourself. i won't blame you if you can't get into it though, it is a NES game in all ways good and bad lol

I didn't play OOT as a kid, I think it is a bit overrated but hey, maybe that's just me getting mad for people not
appreciating MM as much as they should

hey, how many of you have tried that Zelda 1 remake for the SNES satellaview? I played a recreation of it and i liked it a ton. If you're not a fan of the graphics or controls of the original Zelda i recommend giving it a try.

also not a starting point, but I think Minish Cap would also be a good game to play if you're a beginner in the series (it was one of my very first Zelda titles)
not sure if it's a valid point, but i simply adore that game's artstyle and use of environments, I'm a big fan of exploring miniature worlds made of mundane objects.

The divine beast puzzles in BotW reminded me of MM design a bit
Oot needed to do something about the backtracking to prevent ppl from drinking a knife
Twilight Princess was the first one I finished and it was okay but I hated fighting zelda and basically that whole boss scenario at the end (was down to half a heart when I landed the killing blow on accident though, that part was rad)
In all of the older 2D ones I've played, figuring out where to go was the main challenge

I Don't have a switch yet but I really want to play Hyrule Warriors it would probably be my favorite tbh

The 3ds version of Hyrule Warriors isn't half bad if you haven't got a Switch or Wii U

Friendly reminder that's only true for New 3ds models. If you've got an old one the framerate is terrible.

I've got an old one and while a framerate hovering at 20 makes it easily the worst way to play the game, it gets the job done and I enjoyed playing through it.
