Fox-trotting is just repeating the initial dash: initial dash, return to neutral, dash again, repeat, etc. (In Melee, you can also wavedash in place to fox-trot.) This technique uses crouching to cancel the dash, so it's different. The two are very similar though.

That doesn't make sense.

Wow. Is that done when you're on the ground and you run up to the ledge, do up b, and then momentum carries you offstage to ledge grab?

Can you be more specific? Canceling attacks, jumps, get-up options? There's several platform option that involve canceling. Haven't looked into attack off platform ledges too much because there's seem to be no absolute way to perform it consistently, outside of a few specific moves in the game.

I wish we had platform-cancel or some form of universal wavelanding substitute. It would really make SSF2's platform movement even more incredible.

I wish that as well. Fox can Shine, and Tails can tailsdash, but no other characters have that sort of option.

:blackmage: and :ichigo: can use their Fairs to do a waveland. :naruto: has his Dair to perfrom a pseudo-wavedash as well, and :jigglypuff: can abuse the Rollout mechanics as well (best way to combo into Rest). :sora: has Flowmotion to the gound, however this isnt really useful in most situations. So theree actually some more ways for waveland-esque techs than you think

You misinterpreted Zalo's statement, Trite. He was referring to the ability to stop one's upward momentum so that they could land on a platform immediately. Any character with a stall-then-fall dair can do this (Naruto, Sonic, Wario), Fox has shine (since it starts him moving downwards). Technically Yoshi can do this with up-b as well and so can Falcon with down-b, but most characters that *can* do this have too much lag for it to be effective.

MK dtilt reset is pretty good.

Also, to have platform cancelling would also mean we would have other ECB shenanigans like platform warps. It would be great.

edit: wrong platform cancel

In SSF2 we have a very fun approach to techs: the window is large, but we don't **** around with the wimpy "I can buffer getup options and it doesn't work except at low percents" jab resets in console games: you miss a tech, you get rekt. In SSF2, nearly every character has a jab reset that works until way past kill percent. MK's dtilt is just one of these moves. No character I can think of lacks a go-to option to jab reset regardless of percent or character (within reasonable bounds).

IDK if this is off topic but sheik is ridiculously good and 14th on the official tier list seems like extreme underestimation.

Sheik has risen up in popularity recently as a result of her good matchups against top tiers (mostly swordsmen). She wasn't as much of a threat when the tier list was made 3 months ago, but the metagame is shifting quite quickly right now.
