So, does this almost confirm that we'll be seeing pacman or Lloyd/Cless/Yuri in the game?

I think it's a safe assumption, but IMO I think only Pac-Man and Lloyd have a chance to appear. I do have some hopes for others, though.

I don't really think they will be able to come up with a move-set for Pac-Man if they decide to add him...

I don't see it either, but if they manage to make a move-set, I'll be willing to try him out.

I can't help but see it being really screwy though. I mean, he looked odd enough in Street Fighter X Tekken. I can't see him working for SSB like that.

True, I did see how he was in SF x T, and he didn't look so good, but... all I can think of for Pac-Man is him punching someone while using his gloves (generic move), Chomp, Ground Pound (Yoshi clone from Pac-Man World 2), and Spin Dash (Sonic clone from Pac-Man World 2). No other moves come into mind for him...

I'm just hoping that Pac-Man doesn't become a character AT ALL. Maybe as an assist trophy, but nothing else.

If they could make a Smash moveset for Pit AND the Ice Climbers, I'm sure they could come up with a moveset for Pac-Man. After all, he has been in a couple of platformers.

In other news, Sakurai has stated that he wants to bring back every character that has ever been in s Smash game for the next installment, including the ones who were cut from Melee. So those of you who were hoping to see Zoroark, Lucario, and Mewtwo return together, there may be hope.

Holy s***. I'm actually not happy about this.
Think about it; Doing that would make Pokemon have either 6 reps or 8 reps, depending on how you look at Pokemon Trainer. And then if we were to add Zoroark? That'd be 7-9.
The only characters I'd want back are Roy and Mewtwo; But moreso the first, as Pokemon has enough reps already.

pokemon is very, very popular and recognizable -- it's probably the only video game franchise that even comes close to the level of recognition Mario has
lots of people won't even touch nintendo games apart from pokemon, so having a popular dude in there would boost sales/coolness significantly

Truly, I don't know, but for me, I just wanna see him in a Smash game. About everyone having a chance to come back, I wanna see the FE Trio in together, as well as Mewtwo, Lucario, and the possible Zoroark.

Smash bros, since melee, has been following a tradition with the pokemon rep. The pick the promotional pokemon from the current trending generation. Melee it was mewtwo, who had a movie in the first gen. Brawl, lucario was 3rd gen's pokemon promo dude, who also got a movie. I can understand the swap there. Zoroark fits the same exact bill. gen 5 is current, its a shadow/psychic like pokemon, it had a movie, it was 5th gen's poster boy for a while etc etc.

Um, no. Way to blow that statement waaaaay out of proportion. He doesn't mean old characters from smash bros history. He means retro characters within' nintendo's history. Use your brain.

That quote isn't in context. The question wasn't about old smash bros characters, it was about characters from old games. http://www.cubed3.com/news/16920.

Quote:
Adam Riley: You have mentioned how you like to breathe new life into forgotten franchises. Now that Kid Icarus has been completed, what other old classic would you like to look at? Ice Climbers, Star Tropics, MoleMania…or something non-Nintendo?

Sakurai-san: I am planning on doing my best to bring old characters back in Smash Bros. From that perspective, I am probably in the most fortunate position in the world.

Even from the quote out of context I don't know where you got the idea that he wanted to "bring back every character that has ever been in s Smash game."

A little bit of follow-up information about the Namco devlopment team
http://www.siliconera.com/2012/06/21/su ... ken-staff/

I'll quote the entire article since someone's afraid of computer viruses:
Quote:
Nintendo have published a message from the designers of the new Super Smash Bros. games for the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U. As previously reported, the game is being developed by Namco Bandai in collaboration with Smash Bros. co-creator, Masahiro Sakurai.

Sakurai will be directing the game as always, and overseeing the project. His message follows.

Sakurai’s message:

Hello, I’m Masahiro Sakurai, the director of the Super Smash Bros. series.

It’s my personal belief that the only time a creative product really resonates is in that first moment when it’s actually in front of you.

With that said, I’ve realised that if we keep the new Super Smash Bros. title’s development structure secret, it’ll only create more and more speculation, and I won’t be able to develop the game with any freedom. That’s why I’ve decided to announce this news right now, even though it’s still very early on.

I would love to provide more information, but for now, I’m going to stay quiet until I have something solid to show you.

The project has just gotten started. Bear in mind that not only are we developing two titles simultaneously, but we announced the project before we even started actual development, so I’m afraid we will likely have to keep you waiting for quite a while. Please be patient.

Currently, the prototype prepared by NAMCO BANDAI Games and NAMCO BANDAI Studio’s special team looks pretty good, and it’s working great. In order to take advantage of the fact that there will be versions for two different systems, and to maximise and offer fun new gameplay elements, the entire team is going to work hard together. Thank you.

And now, the second message, which is from Masaya Kobayashi of Namco Bandai games, who are developing the new Smash Bros. game.

Kobayashi’s message:

Hello, everyone. I’m Masaya Kobayashi of NAMCO BANDAI Studio. I’m so honored to be able to join the Super Smash Bros. team – that globally popular series of which Japan is particularly proud – and to work alongside Mr. Sakurai.

In order to make Mr. Sakurai proud, we will take on this project with NAMCO BANDAI’s best staff! s*** Higuchi, the producer and the director of the “Tales” series, Tetsuya Akatsuka, producer and director of “Mobile Suit Gundam: Extreme Vs.,” the art director/sound director of the “SoulCalibur” series, the main development team staff from the “TEKKEN” series…and that’s just for starters.

All the top creators from NAMCO BANDAI are gathered here to create a never-before-seen dream team for this project.

We will fully utilise our experience and knowledge in action/fighting game development, technical capability, and organisational strength, and we hereby promise you that we will develop the best and most powerful “Super Smash Bros.” titles ever! Don’t miss them!

As long as they just help make the game and not screw it up or add Namco characters to it, I'm fine with this.
