Centuries ago, there came a time when the Allurans began to forget the spirits of nature. They built great cities of wood and stone, taking resources without mindfulness of the nature that they were destroying. They violated the sacred groves, breaking the oaths of their forbearers, who recognized the sanctity of these places beholden to the spirits. In retribution, the spirits attacked.
Monstrous creatures, forged by the spirits of nature themselves, began to prey upon the Alyrians. Unaware of the reason behind the attacks, the Alyrians tried to fight against these strange new creatures attacking their settlements. Although they fought valiantly, their efforts were in vain, for they could not withstand the unrepentant fury of nature. Hundreds of lives were lost in the chaos and destruction.
There were only three wise novices who could discern the reason for the sudden appearance of these creatures. And yet, despite their petitions to be heard, no authority would heed their advice. So, the three conducted an ancient ritual known only as “The Commune”, a parley between mortals and the spirits of nature. It is through this event that they spoke on behalf of the Alyrians, vowing to restore the balance. In doing so, the novices were bestowed great power, making them mediums between the spirits and the mortals. It was only then, that they could restore peace and guide their people as The Oracles Three.
In their pursuit of stability, the offending cities were abandoned, a dark reminder of what would happen if they were to forget their sacred oaths.
Professor Angus of House Farthington has established a name for himself in the study of ancient Ilisia. His research has taken him all over Ilisia: from the soaring peeks of Tintagel, to the shifting sands of The Sand Sea. Professor Farthington now turns his attention to the lost Alyrian cities, and having obtained permission from The Oracles Three, will venture into the Alyrian Forest. However, before he can begin his journey, the professor is in need of protection and research assistants.
