Stage striking is simple. To decide on who strikes first for game 1, players usually Rock-Paper-Scissors. They take turns striking based on the winner (the winner should get the last strike, this way they get to essentially decide the final stage). SO, if we use Melee's 5 stage neutral list as an example, I RPS Joe Shmoe and win. This means I get to strike one stage. Then he gets to strike 2 stages. Then I strike the fourth stage and we pick the remaining stage (essentially, I get to pick out of the last two stages). More strikes and steps are necessary in larger rulesets.
After a game, the winner bans a predetermined number of stages (3 in this ruleset iirc). The loser may counterpick any legal or counterpick stage that was not banned by the other player. You may also not pick any stage you have won on. You may not ban a stage an opponent has banned, but you can counterpick to a stage that YOU have banned (win game 1, ban your best counterpick so they can't ban it). This process repeats until the set is over.

No idea what's going on with my match. Didn't hear back from firewater yesterday.
