I think Toon Link, Lucario, Wolf and Ike are the ones in biggest danger. Maybe Snake, since we don't know how Sakurai's gonna treat third party characters in this game. Personally though, I'd like for them all to stay (And Mewtwo to come back).

its a popular video game series, many video game companies would kill to get representation into a highly anticipated sequel (think about all that free advertising), so nintendo can make quite the shiny penny off of this
plus, it draws in the existing fanbase of the third party game, which also benefits nintendo

its win-win for everyone - the fans see their favorite games cross-platform and cross-creator in the game they're playing, and everyone makes big bux

Sure, but I think Sakurai mentioned wanting to put less of them in this time around.

And we don't know how he treats these characters anyway, since they've only been in for one game. Are they true "guest" characters, set only to appear once and be replaced each game? Does he intend to give us another Sega/Konami character? Will Sonic and Snake both return, with new characters? Will the new characters be only from companies not yet represented?

No f***' idea. I'd bet that Sonic will stay because of how unbelievably popular he is, but nothing's for sure yet.

So, I know that the odds of a Final Fantasy rep making it in here are slim. Especially since the game's gonna have the same number of characters as Brawl. (Would it seriously kill them to add five more characters.)

But you know, if there is a rep, this is why it should be a Chocobo and not Cloud.

1. Chocobo is perfect for the game style.
Chocobo fits right in with the likes of Yoshi or Pikachu with his adorable charm, and he's got moves like Diddy in that you don't expect him to be able to fight but god damn he can squash people with giant obese chocobos and summon meteors shaped like his own head. Plus he's got magic books, and class changes. Chocobo is a boss.

2. Chocobo has been in nearly every FF game.
Cloud's been in one Final Fantasy game. One. It's never even been on a Nintendo console. Lightning might have more face time than him in the series, but old guys named Cid have her beaten out, and Chocobo beats out Cid. He's even starred in his own spinoff games. Two of those spinoffs were Nintendo exclusive, even.

3. Everybody loves Chocobo.
People like to argue over whether Spikey McAngstysword is cool or stupid, Lightning the girl Final Fantasyer doesn't get a lot of respect for her awful game, and nobody like Tight-ass the stupid underwater stupid ball champion. But Chocobo? He's like Kirby. He's adorable, everyone loves him, and he kicks a**. He's the second cutest badass mascot that Square Enix has. First is Slime, but we all know in which franchise Square's money pot is buried.

You dont find moogles cute? If you ask me, i think Moogles are cuter, just barely though.
