I'm not gonna defend Cloud's inclusion at all but I can understand why he was added. At last year's E3, Sakurai was talking about how proud he was about having four gaming icons (Mario, Sonic, Mega Man, and PAC-MAN) and with the DLC, they've also added Ryu and now Cloud. Now, even though Cloud has never had a non-cameo appearance on a Nintendo console, he's still a gaming icon.

I don't like it any more than you guys but I can understand why he's there.

I was actually hoping for WoL, Firion, or Onion Knight since the they are the first 3 on the NES. Like FF7, hate the fandom that comes with it. This has to be Sakurai's choice. The ballot character has to be in the December direct

Jokes aside, I personally think Cloud's trailer was pretty much the best part of the Nintendo Direct, mostly because the rest was pretty meh (even TP HD)

I guarantee Cloud's announcement is related to the Final Fantasy VII remake coming out. As for the character himself, he just looks boring. Like a Shulk clone plus a little bit of Ike. Or the other way around, even.
I'd rather have a Chocobo as a playable character than Cloud. He'd fit in with the likes of Yoshi and Kirby, he wouldn't be another guy with a sword, and his final smash would drop a giant Fat Chocobo on the stage like a Snorlax.

Ike's down smash. An up special that looks like part Shulk and part Ike. Ike's final smash. Shulk's down air. Ike's up smash. Ike's forward air.

That's not him being a clone. That's him having moves that look similar. Have you played as him? You don't know how his moves work exactly. Don't assume.

Honestly i've played all the Chocobo games and would make a great smash character but Cloud was a lot better then i expected when they showed him, seriously how is he a clone, i guess his final smash is, overall a lot better then i would expect.
