i don't have a problem with that. sure a lance or a scythe or something would be badass but swords are fine too. it's not like they all have the same exact playstyle.

I hear you. It'd be one thing if they played similarly, but Link, Meta Knight, Marth, Ike, and Pit if you count him are all leagues apart in playstyle. Looks like Mii Swordfighter will be unique too, and Robin definitely is.

yeah, the clones just happen to be of characters with swords. we could just as easily have three mario clones (Luigi, Dr. Mario, and Shadow Mario for example)

It's not "too many sword users in Smash" it's "too many sword users from a game that actively tells you to diversify your weapon choices or you can't win". And it's not like every main character just so happens to use a sword, because they don't.


Strawman argument. We both know I was talking about FE reps not the entire cast. (Not that single digit percent of characters using a bow are too many characters anyways. Besides, you set up the flaw in your own argument, there are a handful of characters that use magic already too.) Lyn is a single example, maybe I should say "What about Hector, he used an axe?" Because I'm sure none of you would come up with a poor excuse for any character I could have named.

it's not really fair to say all sword characters play differently when sakurai obviously picks the ones that he can make play differently. i know what you're saying and i agree but what i mean is that you can't really use the in-game roster as proof of that kind of thing, because if he doesn't think they'll play uniquely or interestingly he won't add them. obviously if he added every sword-wielding character that people ask for they'd probably all be a little same-y compared to the characters using unique weapons or fighting styles.

What are you not getting about the part where I'm specifically talking about Fire Emblem? The part where out of three core weapons of Fire Emblem, only one is represented? Or the part where that's not okay even on a technicality because the main characters of Fire Emblem are not exclusively sword users? The first part specifically is in response to the people telling me to stop complaining about how so many franchises have sword wielding heroes. I don't care if every franchise represented has a swordsman in it, I care that a franchise that ISN'T exclusively swordsmen is represented exclusively BY swordsmen. The second part specifically points out, not every Fire Emblem hero uses a sword.

And just for the record, Fire Emblem representation in Smash 4 is the thing that is being talked about in this post. Fire Emblem.

Sure, they would be more unique, but that doesn't necessarily make them the better choice.
