If you're having trouble with items, just wait for an item. Shield dodging means nothing when I have a Pokéball >:3

I hear that Kirby isn't exactly what most would refer to as "viable" in v0.9b, so I have a question for everyone. Considering what I just said, what official Smash game would all of you liken Kirby to in comparison?
The original Super Smash Bros.? Super Smash Bros. Melee? Super Smash Bros. Brawl? Super Smash Bros. 4? Project M?

So, a mix of all of them? I've never really played much of Kirby (Brawl) and Kirby (PM), so I'm a bit out of the loop with those incarnations. BTW, thanks for reminding me. I should also add Project M as a possible comparison. That post should be edited soon.

SSF2 rarely steals a character from one game: most characters manage to be eclectic and have multiple games' moves and originals from SSF2, but they usually cohere into a well-designed character. Kirby is the same way (maybe minus the well-designed lol): lots of stuff from various games. Combos are definitely PM Kirby not 64, movement is a lot more like Sm4sh, and the moveset is from Brawl, more or less.

Weird. From what you described about Kirby just now, I would think that this would be considered the best of three worlds for him. Is he so unviable that none of this will really help him he long run?

don't entirely know much about kirby but I don't think he is "so unviable".

I feel the same way. I just don't see what makes Kirby unviable. He feels pretty solid to me. Maybe it's because I've been using him against CPUs for a while?

I'm just hoping they brighten up his colors a bit because his Brawl incarnation is now pretty dated. Same for Ness and Yoshi.

There's a difference? OK, with his Smash 4 incarnation, but the others?

Brawl's colors are too dull for the game's new standards. Also Ness's shirt stripes colors are too similar to his skin tone. I also hope he gets Smash 4's Hammer Flip (the second part of his Sm4sh Side B, after he charges it) and also Melee's Air Side-B maybe?

Oh, I see what you mean now. I was playing as Kirby in v0.9b for a little while today, and I decided to check on what you were talking about. Turns out you're definitely right about Kirby STILL having his skin tone from Brawl since, what? v0.5a? They might want to touch-up his skin tone a little bit already. I mean if he does stay like this from here on out, I won't have a problem with it though. Also, Ness REALLY needs a touch-up to his colors as well. Personally, I think he needs it much more than Kirby honestly. TBH, I can see that happening Hammer Flip ending up being his new S-Special once Beta is released. I know he had Melee's version of his Side-B from v0.1a to v0.4b. I guess I wouldn't mind if it was brought back.

@dragonballhero:
Kirby has a lot of strengths, and I think he'd do great in a different game, but in this game range matters a lot, and Kirby doesn't have great speed and has terrible range. He doesn't really have any safe approaches against characters who can prevent him from landing or challenge bair, and so he has to rely on reads and opponent errors in neutral, which doesn't work out sometimes. He doesn't have any great way of getting in against projectiles, which wouldn't be a problem except for that a lot of projectiles are really good in this game (Sheik needles combo into her combo starters, Naruto's entire kit, Pikachu's Thunder Jolt is amazing, Goku has ki blasts, etc.), and a lot of them can hit Kirby even while crouching.
