I was looking at that myself. I was considering making each part of the legs the same height of the torso. I also need to get used to making higher angled lines.

A wip of a teenage girl. Really like how it turned out. Her height compared to the second wip I made.

May I ask how you're getting from stick figure to outline?

Um, that's how you sprite. You take the lines of the figure as the size reference and the anatomy reference, then draw your arms, legs, limbs, etc. over the lines.

I think he's asking because of genuine interest rather then some form of judgement on his way of spriting (I refer to the 'how' isntead of a 'why' here). Green, I think you could go for a little more reference with your poses. There are some mistakes in there that you easily could've caught it you had a reference to check. In particular, the knees being on different heights. Also remember that when it comes to female anatomy, the hips are more rounded giving the body a sleek appeareance. That is missing on your set-up right now.

I am neither judging nor asking out of interest. I believe Sage's process could be improved.
@Sage: It looks as if you're placing final lines right away. I know some people are capable of this, but I have never been part of that group. Have you ever tried roughing lines in and then cleaning them up?

I can't really find anywhere to look for poses, so I came up with one. The knees and hips are an easy fix. I can easily work on those with this new method. Thanks for the feedback. Well, I use the measurements of the pixels to help with things like the joints. I do this by making sure that that each total measurement for a certain body part is even, then when I get to a certain stop point, I draw the joints. For the Torso, I always draw that stick figure wise first. If the arms are covering a certain part of the torso, I don't draw it in the outline, which why the arms are last thing that is drawn in the outline. Thanks for asking. I don't draw, but that is an interesting idea to apply. I usually just edit out some of the rough edges that I think don't look right while I'm making the outline. Roughing lines in drawing really helps, so I may try it if I have to. On another note, I think that I draw my sprite a tad bit skinny. What are you guys opinion on that?

Google holds an unlimited supply of almost all the reference you'll ever need, never forget that.

I know of the magical word of google. I just couldn't find a fitting pose at first cause I didn't look hard enough, but I think I can now. Anyways... A character that is from the same project that I won't get into detail with yet. I liked how this turned out. The sword could some work though. I used a stock as a reference: http://fav.me/d3dwr3a

It's a good start but i see a lot of picks with the sprite.
For examples:
-the left arm wielding the sword looks bent/crooked. Doesn't really look like it's in equal proportion to the other hand either.
-There's no indication of his foot/shoe on the left leg (As you can see in the reference, which clearly indicates that the leg is bent).
-Sword is crooked/bent. When you think of a sword, it should be straight and sharp.
-Body looks odd in comparison to the reference you used.
However, it's a pretty damn good start. Great to see you're making use of the references and techniques there ^_^

Update on the female girl. Fixed the things that Damian mentioned. Think that it looks better now. I also noticed that the third step can also help with my shading, hence why there are 3 colors on the pants.

I think you should make the head a little bigger. The rest is pretty good.

Annnnnd were done! The character is a teenage girl named Yamagi Mano. In game she goes by a nickname given to her by a demon spirit worshiping cult, which is Blizzard. I like what I did, but I see some flaws, like I can't draw any breasts for example. This stock was used: http://fav.me/d46jim3Oh! And a gif with the process. It's short, but trust me, this took awhile.
