Actually it was more behind, way before Shippuden.
Some dude called "Raiga Kurosuki" was the previous (or next) weilder of the Kiba before (or after) Ameyuri Ringo. It was on the "Curry of Life Arc" filler that spanned from episode 152 to 157 of the original Naruto anime. I remember that Arc, it was a meh filler, but it wasn't bad. Is worth watching it once if you ask me.

Oh yeah I remember that filler, I too noticed the resemblance of the swords when I was watching the Seven Swordsmen of the Mist on the anime.

No, I mean, I know that those swordsmen exist on the Narutoverse, but I thought that they were only introduced on the anime.
I thought that, since they were so many episodes focusing on each of them during the war, that they were filler material. They were introduced on the manga, but those episodes you are talking about when they focus on each swordsmen were indeed fillers.

^^ what he said. But what I was saying was that we were told that Zabuza was one of the 7 shinobi swordsmen of the mist, you certainly didn't think he was a filler character right? It's not to 'give room to the manga', if they did that they would just stop making episodes until they knew they had enough content to make manga content episode. But fillers are just a method to make more money for the show by churning out episode after episode of drivel _________________  |

Double chapter!!!
Even through this Arc is filler, I'm really enjoying it. The first chapter was hilarious, Yukimi did all the things I would do if i had the ability to posses someone, but seriously, that hability is brutal. The second chapter really showed us a real human side from Tenzou, unlike most Root members, he has a heart, and I wasn't surprised by Orochimaru's betrayal, that guy has always been a sick son of a *beep*.
