Eh, it and Minecraft have very different appealing qualities to them, and are really quite differently styled games.

The general idea is similar, it's just the way it's been presented and padded out with features that differs them

not really, it's kind of the other way around.
the games have completely different goals and genres and playstyles, they both just happen to have the terrain-editing feature. |

Exactly =p Terraria is based around exploring and bosses, while Minecraft is based around survival and creativity. The creative aspect of Terraria is barely there but it is a satisfying feature. With the new updates that are coming with 1.9 (or full release) I think Minecraft and Terraria will become more alike, I just think that Minecraft will have more freedom.

Eh, I think you pretty much hit the nail on the head with calling it a satisfying feature. It's like in games where you can decorate stuff or customize things. It's not key and you don't need to do it, but it's kind of nice that you have those options in addition to the main gameplay.

What... you don't have to dig downward to reach different biomes... just walk sideways on the surface...
