It isn't a forum-breaking problem, it's just the douchbaggyness of people is kinda stupid. Nobody cares if you say "I'm going forever" but come back the next day. Individuals need to be punished. This already falls under the rule of no spamming outside of the spam section (as if anyone followed that rule ever...).

It's not spam though, its departure, as attention whoring as it is, its departure.

I thought post count didn't increase in Arrivals.

News to me. I thought it just didn't go up in spam or forum games.

Still, spam is spam.

If it isn't for realz then it is spam, and THAT is the case.

What if at that moment it is 'for realz'? Or they think it is?

If it is 'for realz' then they won't know that they will be banned. When they come back, the ban will be up.

I think its a good idea. I'll just never say I'm leaving even though I'm leaving. But I'm not leaving right now.
Anyway...

How is it dumb? Because you can't counter-argue? Piss poor on your part.

If they really do leave, they won't even know they are banned. If they don't leave, it's their consequence.

Let's rephrase. If they say they are leaving, but it is a lie, and they come back, BAN THEM, if they said they were leaving and somehow they managed to... not leave (I think it is what you're talking about), and have a good excuse, they won't be banned, but they could either be warned or the topic could be locked/deleted. If they keep going away and giving (lame, or maybe just smart but false) excuses, then they are probably lying, so they should be banned.

I think that, no matter what, any person needs to be able to explain themselves, so I think Hakker should give them a chance anyway, because he usually don't do that (and since I don't really see the other admins I don't know about them, except Cleod, whom lets us explain things...).

@Notorio
He means that it may be true, but they may manage to get over whatever made them leave and when they come back they'll be frustrated because they can't log in.

I believe you are missing the point.

Why ban someone who "lied" about leaving? It just causes extra work for the moderator to ban someone and to check. This is also counterproductive. By doing this, you're discouraging people from being on the forums. Before some moron comes in and says, "less people = less noobs = win", that's definitely not the right mentality to have on a forum.

On the other hand, having the post itself is spam and relatively pointless and should probably be taken care of.

Just my 00010 cents.

I know, but at the same time, punishing everyone because of some people is really bad too, yahmsayin?

Just remove the departures part and warn everyone who makes a departure topic, as I said before.

EDIT: Oh, just for the record, this IS the right mentality. Ok, some noobs change and become ok, but not THIS kind of noob, and why should we encourage people, I'd prefer to have less people here, there are already a lot of users already, and the f*** most of them are noobs.

This is a great compromise in my opinion.

No, it's not the right mentality. It's a rather close minded approach. You have successfully grouped a rather extensive variety of newcomers into a pool called "noobs", and have declared that they should not be on the forums. Simplifying whether someone should be on the forums or not down to "act noobish" and "not act noobish", is definitely not the right mentality.

Stereotyping is bad, bro.

They, being human beings on the internet, have every right to be on the forums, as Cleod hasn't shown that they are unwelcome. /:|
