In my opinion, I think a lot of retro and/or uncommonly known characters are going to get in, compared to SSB4's seemingly All-star cast. After all, the list was finalized in 2012. At the time, we didn't even know if they were even going to make the fourth. The list was probably based on the devs' wish lists of who they wanted in smash.

So yeah, I'm guessing the following have either been thought of already and are being implemented in the game as we speak, or have already been rejected. They're mostly main characters of each series, but yeah.

Ryu (Street Fighter Series)
(+(An actual fighter in his series.)
(+(A unique move set, in a sense.)
(-(Just a wee bit too similar to Capt. Falcon IMO)

Scorpion (Mortal Kombat Series)
(+(Like above, an actual fighter.)
(+(Once again, a unique and brutal move set.)
(-(Maybe not enough moves for a complete move set, requiring ad libs.)
(-(Too hardcore for a game like Smash, maybe?)

Ah yes, that game by Wily World Cleod partook in creating...I do recall something about "having no MG representatives ingame (Blade/Blue cut, so yeah)", but since those three aren't exactly 100% MG...I see a very tiny chance of them being trophies or something like that, though not characters.

Speculating each "minor" series currently appearing in game to have at least two representatives (apart from anime characters and those like Chibi Robo and Bomberman that really only have one, recognizable protagonist), e.g:

Tales of Symphonia: Lloyd (Starter), Kratos/someone else (Unlockable)
Megaman: Megaman (Starter), Bass/Zero (Unlockable)
Fire Emblem: Marth (Starter), Roy/Ike/the two SSB4 new people (Unlockable)
Donkey Kong: Donkey Kong (Starter), Diddy Kong (Unlockable)
Wario: Wario (Starter), Waluigi (Unlockable)
Kingdom Hearts: Sora (Starter), Roxas/Riku (Unlockable)
Final Fantasy: Black Mage (Starter), somanyoptionstochoosefrom (Unlockable)

The devs already stated there would be no pure clones in SSF2.

No "pure" clones? So, like Capt. Falcon and Ganon? Or like 2 characters with different side specials?

And my bet would be Simon Belmont for next reveal. Or at least, someone from Castlevania. The only problem with my idea is that any Belmont added to the game would probably be using a whip. That means that they'll be like ZS Samus, plus the sub-weapons from their respective game in the series.
