He's just being a sheep. People say stop using smileys when someone uses hundreds in one post. Apparently he thinks that means there shouldn't be ANY smileys.

It's not a standard smiley. Besides, you can turn some standard smileys off. He just kept it in there so there can be +1 smiley.
