It's a terrible idea all-together. And plus, this is what the "This user was last logged in on: " feature is for

What they said.
Learn to check the damn previous topics, it's been denied before.

*unlocks*
Sorry for using this locked topic hakker, but I had an little idea which DOESN'T deserve a new topic.
How about adding a new data to the users tags (along with Location,Occupation,Interests,Website, etc.) called something like "Active" or some stupid thing of the sort.
That way, we will avoid all the "I'm leaving" or "I'm back" topics, just by including ONE tag which says "not Active" or "Active" respectively.
...
It sounds kind of stupid if you think about it, but I see profit.

And the person would change it themselves, or would there be a system which determines who's active and who isn't?

Darn it, be on or don't be on, you really don't have to make a freakin' topic about it.

Nac aprecciates I was thinking of using Both. In case the user have to leave for some reason (a trip, to study, because your parents don't allow you, etc.), he/she can change it in his user pannel. In case the user doesn't log in in more than a couple of months, it should automatically change you to "not active".

STFU. They want to implement this so people don't make topics about leaving, and such.

Still people don't need to make topics. It's going to be unnoticed, locked, rinse and repeat, again and again and again

Nac's idea really isn't bad.
He's not making a whole new topic; it'll be in your whatchamacallit... profile. Oh yeah.

And what about a reason for being not active field. Because if I see someone's set to not active, I'm not sure if they left forever or temporarily. But if we can't do that, Nac's idea could work.
