Welcome to the X Tournament Series
The X Tournament Series is a long standing series of tournaments originally started by me (Doqtor Kirby) in December 2014. The X Tournament Series is the second-longest running tournament series for Super Smash Flash 2, only to the Smash Island series; and is tied for the most events with seventeen at the end of 2015, also shared with Smash Island. The goal of the X Tournament Series is to provide the optimal tournament experience for everyone who plays the game.

What does it entail?
The X Tournament Series has had a long standing tradition of providing a monthly skill tournament at the last Saturday of every month. But the X Tournament Series is not one to shy away from experimenting, and that is easily accomplished with Qualifier events. All of this is done for the players to enjoy the event to the fullest.

The Rules. Learn em'. Live em'.
× 4 stocks
× 7 minutes
× No items
× Hazards are set to off
× Dave's Stupid a** Rule (DSAR): You can't pick a stage you won on in the set
× Sets are best of 3 games, winners, losers, and grand finals are best of 5. Salty Suites are best of 7 unless specified otherwise.
× Game 1 characters are double-blind. After game 1, the loser of the previous game announces the stage choice, the winner announces a character counterpick if desired.
× If a desync occurs, the match is replayed. If continuous desyncs occur, the player with the most stocks and least percent wins. If there is a discrepancy, it's the TO's decision.
× If timeout occurs, the player with most stocks/least percent wins. If there's same stocks and percent, see me.
× If a player uses a suicide move to take both players' last stocks, the initiator loses the game.
× Stalling is banned. This should be pretty self-expanatory.
× Gentleman's Clause is allowed. All rules can be thrown out the window if both players agree.
× Replay saving is highly encouraged. Or you get your head chewed off.

Stage Legality:
3 Stage Bans in the counterpicking process.

Definitions
XSS - X Scoring System. Without a version number, XSS references version 3.0.
FCR - Flash Collective Rankings. The other major ranking system and what X uses to break ties.
Spreadsheet - The Excel document with the X sheets on it.

Differences Between X Scoring System and Flash Collective Rankings
Ok, so before I go into the technical details of the XSS, a few differences between it and FCR:
- The core difference between the X Scoring System and the Flash Collective Rankings is that the FCR is based off of tournament placings whereas XSS is based off of player-player interactions.
- FCR relies on number of entrants. XSS does not.
- XSS relies on set counts. FCR does not.
- Both FCR and XSS have complicated Spreadsheets, but also have a human-readable form.

Basic Explanation of the X Scoring System
The X Scoring System is a lot less complicated than it seems. In short, it's just a big spreadsheet of win-loss records between players. Because it's laid out that way, it is very possible to get different rankings based on a certain player than the standardized General Player Average (GPA). Read on to get details on these three elements of the X Scoring System.

The Win-Loss Ratio
The win-loss ratio plays a large role in the XSS, so large it is the entire basis of the rankings. As players play each other more, the win-loss records get higher, and by extension, more accurate as time passes.

The Spreadsheet
The spreadsheet portrays the Win-Loss records a certain way. Wins are along the rows and account for the GPA and GPA2. Losses by extensions are in the collumns and make the GPA3 and GPA4 (coming soon).

The General Player Average (GPA) and its Derivatives (GPA2, GPA3, and GPA4)
The General Player Average is a standard ranking for the XSS, and does not base off of a single player, but off of all players. The GPA is calculated by taking the average win count of all players fought by a single player. The GPA2, GPA3, and GPA4 are simply derivatives of GPA, with one or two changes:
- GPA2: GPA, with the highest and lowest values removed.
- GPA3: GPA for losses instead of wins.
- GPA4: GPA3, with the highest and lowest values removed.

The Future of the X Scoring System
This isn't nowhere near the cleanest system, and honestly I'd be better off using the ELO or GLICKO or GECKO or MLG or MGN system or something. Or I could provide support for this one. I chose the latter, and with my luck there will be an XSS v3.1.

Appendix A: X Scoring System v2.1
Formula: [ set(W-L, W > 0, W > L | W-(L-1), L > W, L > 0) + set(...) + set (...) ] / set count / tour count

Appendix B: X Scoring System v2.0
Formula: [ set(W-L, W > 0, W > L | W-(L-1), L > W, L > 0) + set(...) + set (...) ] / tour count

Appendix C: X Scoring System v1.0
Formula: [ set(W-L, W > 0, W > L | W-(L-1), L > W, L > 0) + set(...) + set (...) ]

What about 3-2 sets? Is that +1 or +0?

I used to run rankings based on game wins, but that proved to be potentially problematic because it rewards the player who plays at the most events, rather than the one who actually wins the most. A guy who wins the first round at Joe's blahblahblah tournament 6 times should not be on par with the guy who wins the Official Mega Ultra Tournament XII: THE EDGE.

If anything, you should do it like Formula 1. Give players a small number of points for minor victories, and a more significant number for a good placing.

So then what about the other guy? Does he lose a point or lose no points?

Great idea.
You might be able to make a reasonable top 15 players with this at a later date.

If a player forfeits a set, does the other player still get points? If not, it could prove to be abuseable if one wanted to deny someone points.

I have not decided on it yet. I know for a fact that sets will not be counted normally, but I'm not sure if I should give winner points or take points from forfeiter. Likely the latter tho.
