Voice actor and minor nitpicks aside, I find Phoenix Wright a very interesting and unique character. Looking for evidence and using it during battle and multiple modes with different special moves make him seem very fun to play.

Actually, multiple items shoot beams. It depends on the evidence found in Investigation mode. Once in Court mode, if you found good evidence, when said evidence is presented (be it a knife, a picture, a flower pot, or a cell phone, although no videos I've seen so far had a cell phone) it will shoot a sort of beam. I'm not sure whether the beam is based on the type of evidence or what button it's assigned to, but I've seen three types: A triple shot beam, a uni-beam type beam, and an arching beam. If it's bad evidence (has a dark folder in the Court Record), nothing happens and Wright just stands there confused, leaving him open for attack.
