Narutopedia is a biased website, it used to be good but a user named 'ShounenSuki' f*** it up.

I actually believe Madara helped Itachi because of many issues. He took Sasuke under his wing after Itachi died, so you can kind of see that Itachi was his more or less protege.

When Itachi sought Madara out, Madara knew he needed subordinates to fulfill his Moon Plan, so by doing this favour for Itachi, he could ask Itachi to join Akatsuki with no strings attached.

Something still seems to be missing. Why would Tobi turn on his clan in their time when they'd be most on his side. He could have just waltzed in and taken over the operation.

There's a missing piece here.

I may stick with my theroy Itachi was simply demonizing Tobi so Sasuke would have more reason to want to kill him. Itachi and Tobi's descriptions of his actions both conflict in some areas (for example, Itachi said he sicked the Kyubi on Konoha, Tobi said the attack had nothing to do with him).

I could accept the two had some contact (as Itachi knew how to join Akatsuki after the slaughter), but I'm starting to doubt the attack involved them both as much as Itachi said. Perhaps Sasuke has accepted that idea too.

The fact Sasuke didn't think Itachi could commit the slaughter on his own could also be dismissed as Sasuke not understanding his brother's true power. Itachi was signifigantly stronger then Sasuke was ever prepared for when they fought, and he was dying of disease at the time. With Mangekyo Sharingan, his eye sight and health at their prime, I don't think slaughtering a clan is too out of the ordinary

And Itachi didn't join Akatsuki of Madara's accord. He joined to try to keep Konoha safe from the organization. Also, Madara turned because he was shunned by the clan.

Perhaps those who had made peace with the Second Hokage shunned him, but if he were aware of the plan to turn on Konoha (which I can see several ways he would), I can't see either side denying the other.

And Akatsuki is a top secret organization, most members had to meet others to join, Tobi would be Itachi's

1. They disdained and scorned him for allegedly stealing his brother‘s eyes.

2. They called him a war-hungry maniac.

3. They practically banished him.

4. He wasn't backed by his clan in his time of need.

This fueled his rage. Now I'm not gonna take sides Kyubi attack.

The Kyubi was odd.

I mean, Minato sacrificed himself to do a terrible seal on Naruto.

Why couldn't he have asked another Ninja to do it...

Because he wanted Naruto to use its power to defeat Madara.

One can assume that he meant for him to learn "That Jutsu".

Bah.

How did Minato know of Madara, though?

And what of Anko and Kabuto?

Because he apparently fought him when Kyubi raped Konoha.
