Scientists in the US have succeeded in developing the first synthetic living cell.

And then, man grew proud.

Interesting observation, mister.
I wonder if they can make synthetic white blood cells that DON'T need leader T-cells to function. Sayonara, AIDS!

T-Cells are a type of white blood cell.

It's not proper to call this a truely synthetic cell, as it is merely artificial DNA placed into an already living cell.

Well, HIV resistant synthetic T-cells wuold work. If only the real cells wouldn't eat them first.

Yes and no. I agree with you in the way that the ORIGINAL cell wasn't synthetically created, and part of the DNA is original, just a bit of it is syntethic.
HOWEVER, they may consider the other cells originated by the original one that had the DNA activated as synthetics. But it is still a bit lame...
They usually make "easier" descriptions so laypeople can understand better.

And about AIDS, they could use those cells in many different ways to prevent AIDS (I could give examples, but I'm lazy, it doesn't matter that much anyway), but the most effective/easy would be creating a vaccine by changing the original HIV cell's DNA ;)
