Face it, just playing NationStates to figure out your political stance on certain topics will get old. The only missing thing from NS is warfare and I'd like to introduce some of that to MLG.
Gameplay should be PBP and most of the fighting should be resolved by some very simplistic simulation systems which I have not decided on yet. This is a very rough version of what I have so far.
FormDefence Budget: Doesn't have to be exact. Determined by the calculator at
nstracker.orgPersonnel: Number of troops. No more than 7% during wartime. Good ratio is 300-400 civilians per soldier.
Standard Infantry Weapon: Any kind of projectile weapon should do assume negligible cost for the time being.
MBT: Main battle tank. Can be bipedal-mechas but they are prone to being easily toppled, are expensive and very pretty.
APC: Armoured Personnel Carrier that is used by your troops, possibly also for the mechanised division.
Fighter: Air force's air superiority fighter. Can be bipedal mechas but they are prone to being shot down.
Bomber: Air force's main bomber.
Transport Helicopter: Used for heavy lifting.
Attack Helicopter: Optional. Used for ground attack and anti-tank roles.
Artillery Piece: Optional. Your long range indirect fire weapon system of choice.
Force Organisation: Optional. Description of the division of troops and whatever else you want to say.
Take your defence budget, convert to dollars and go shopping on Wikipedia or a good site that can give you actual prices of the units themselves. This assumes no R&D and maintenance is factored in. Note I am not counting ammunition yet. No need to make this overly complicated.
On Acquisition and Major Arms DealersAmerica doesn't like to openly sell weapons and tech to dictatorships but a lot of their old stuff can be acquired through their third world country allies like Thailand and formerly Iran.
Russia sells to everyone though their export models tend to be inferior.
Europe is a mix between America and Russia. It really depends on the government.
Israel will and can upgrade your old pieces of junk weapon systems as long as you don't mess with them.
China has a license to build some Russian weapon systems but these are, as usual, inferior to the original Russian designs.
Here's an example calculation using my defence budget. The italicised means I haven't found the price for the weapon system yet but I am interested in fielding them.
Defence Budget: ~500 million USD
Personnel: 30,000
Standard Infantry Weapon: AK-103
MBT:
T-72 or
M60 PattonAPC: 5 CV-90 9 million USD
Fighter: 16 Mikoyan-Gurevich 29 176 million USD
Bomber:
Ilyushin IL-28 "Beagle" or
Tupolev Tu-16 "Badger"Transport Helicopter:
Bell Uh-1 Iroquois "Huey" or
Mil Mi-24 "Hind"Attack Helicopter:
Bell Uh-1 Iroquois "Huey" or
Mil Mi-24 "Hind"Artillery Piece:
M101 Howitzer (105mm)Force Organisation:
Remaining: 313 million
As you can see its far from complete but it gives me an idea of what I can afford and field. Side note, I seem to have the smallest Defence budget of the region (not counting those who have a defence budget of 0).
Suggestions are needed.
