Only the REEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAL pros play with the pokeballs (assist trophies are for scrubs).
But, personally, I prefer the air.

I really dig the items in this game and I hope that the different shells are made separate in beta. I'm also really digging the new fire works item. What game is that from? And another thing... I hope we see items for the anime series within the game. I think it would be neat if the 7 dragon balls were made a collectable item to summon shenron to buff or put some type of hindrance on the opponent... or... maybe you could even make that apart of the planet namek stage (kind of like the summons on midgar).

Yeah, well, the Motion Sensor Bomb was based on the item of the same name of the GoldenEye 007, the Baseball Bat likely inspired by the original Mother and Earthbound, the fan probably inspired on Kirby's fan from Samurai Kirby and the capsules have inspiration from the original Dragon Ball (the Smash 4 version even says "CAPSULE" over the item, if that's not a reference I don't know what it is).
So, what was the Fireworks item inspired from? Loving the new items in Beta.

The baseball bat and fan speculations are kind of a reach. Baseball is popular in Japan and paper fans have been used by Japanese comedians for a long time. That's most likely where those origins or from.
