The side smash isn't entirely horrible. The biggest trouble is definitely the anticipation. Add some inbetweens in there. Use more inbetweens closer to the end of the anticipation.

Runs are meant to be looped, and with that strange foot movement at the beginning, it's going to look strange.

Runs aren't meant to be looped. Ideally you'd draw every frame across the screen. Sadly ideals are usually infeasible, especially in games.

Both look strange. Try making the motion smoother and having ripples pass over the form in the cloth folds to convey motion.

ill probably make an actual run and walk soon, these are temporary, so i wont bother fixing them, ill just sprite an actual walk and run.
