What does "popular topic" mean in terms of forums? Does it mean the topic has some number of posts? Or that the topic has had some number of posts posted recently?

"Popular topic" or "Hot Threads" means that a topic has reached or exceed a certain number of posts in which it becomes popular. For example: An announcement topic has more 30 posts, it's changed from a regular topic to a popular topic. (Just for anybody that doesn't "Popular topics" in forums terms) Anywho, maybe a star next to the Hot topic icon?

Well the way I see it this would be so people can easily find topics that are popular through an icon next to the topic. Maybe there's a difference between how many posts/views a topic has and how popular it is, I don't know. The alternative would be to just sticky the popular topics, and I'm sure nobody is up for doing that.
