Bayonetta doesn't seem like someone the dev would add considering recently Nintendo and Bayonetta have just had a solidified relationship a year ago.
Maybe as an expansion, not probable for the base game though.

I personally would love for another Tales of Rep that actually fits Smash mechanics like y'know Stahn, Cless, Senel, Dio/Mel.

I speculate that Cloud Strife will NOT be in the game. Oh yes, he's iconic and all... but with the inclusion of Black Mage, who's a job class and for the most part (Final Fantasy 1 had a character that was just 'Black Mage') isn't an actual character, it seems like the devs would add another Final Fantasy job class instead of an actual character. It'd be odd if the FF reps were Black Mage and Cloud. Black Mage and Warrior/Thief/White Mage/Blue Mage/Red Mage/Monk would make more sense. As for what job class I speculate that to be...

Red Mage. The whole gimmick of the Red Mage is that he's a jack of all trades and master of none. He's okay at black magic, okay at white magic, and he can wield a sword. Seems like the perfect well-balanced character to add in.

Speculating a White Mage pallette character, like both Robins in SSB4.
(Also, BM uses a lot more magic than just black magic in his moves, so considering he's not 100% canon White Mage could use that logic)
Altough, I think Cloud is a lot more likely

My Thoughts
- Wouldn't Knuckles and Shadow be switched in the chances of getting in?
- I can see Pit , Ice Climbers , and Luffy Making the Beta final roster
- Like Shiver star said Pac-man and Viewtiful Joe are confirmed assist trophies.
- I think Ryu would get in before Viewtiful joe ( But anything possible in this game )
Possibilitys
- What about the possiblilty of another tales character?
- Simon Belmont? I mean like we have a castlevania stage , and its a known series loved by many.
- Just My Opinion but I think Young link might come back but a mix of melee and majora masked link.
- Another Fire Emblem Rep? Possibly ( Lyn , Roy , Ike )

- Well, Shadow is more requested than Knuckles, if I'm not mistaken.
- Like I said, 32 is a good starting roster, but I guess anything's possible. Plus, it'd be pretty likely if they announced Luigi as the last starter character.
- PAC-MAN was leaked a while back, and McLeodGaming itself stated that Viewtiful Joe was not confirmed to ba an Assist Trophy - it's just a mistake the McLeodGaming wiki made.
- I'd like to see Ryu as well, and possibly a Mortal Kombat rep? Scorpion, anyone?
- Who would that Tales character be? Just curious.

- If any clone would come into SSF2, it'd probably be Toon Link, Lucas, or Dr. Mario, because A.) They're all clones of characters of the original 12 B.) They've appeared in more Smash games than any other clone (Roy is a clone of Marth, who's not in the original 12) and C.) Toon Link has appeared in more Smash games than Young Link. Besides, I highly doubt McLeodGaming is going to put clones in SSF2 anyway, but if they would, those three would be the most likely candidates.
- Ike would be more likely than those other two.

I think Viewtful and Pacman are assist trophies so they can't be characters as well. Luffy was confirmed out of the game imo, something about to many anime characters. Id say Crono, Cloud and Knuckles have better chances of getting in rather than Bowser Jr. or Ashley
