couldnt see a thread for this so i made one it is VERY good the writng is quite great and the combat is really unique, in-depth and more importantly a lot of fun. also a lot of replay value because of the ranking system and special mission mode, in addition to the story mode being quite long. if you have a wii u (so noone) BUY THIS.

The demo is fun so I might get it. That one trailer from the Nintendo Direct was cool, too.

only reason i don't have a wii u is because i want a ps4 more, and i cant risk spending the money too early.
i'll get a wii u, but that's later on down the road. but this game looks cool, i'll add it to my list of games to get when i buy a wii u

'Sides the PS4, this. This and Pikmin are the only games I really want ATM. Once the new Smash comes out I'll pick this up.

Really, it's the people who still listen to IGN that make it impossible. They have a few good stories, yes, but their reviews are completely bought-out, the same thing goes for Gamespot. The fact that people refuse to actually rent a game and give it a try themselves, or at least look into gameplay from a person that isn't intentionally playing badly, and go solely on the number score of a review are the issue.

i totally agree, the reviewer seemed totally uninterested in doing the review in the first place, so i'm sure it wasn't a fair score. i buy games based on what i see in gameplay, not from reviews (though sometimes their reviews are on point)

Actually, the Wii U's IGN review was made by some sony fanboy who told you to stay away from that console. It given a bad qualification for some superficial issues too

I listened to a podcast the other day. They explained in depth, as avid gamers, that the main problem with reviews regarding W101 is that it's meant to be learned over time. It's like character action and fighting games; you can't just pick it up, play it, and enjoy it how it's meant to be enjoyed. These kinds of games take time to master, and reviewers don't have enough time to truly 'get it.' Doesn't help that they just don't really care for these Japanese kinds of games.

But there's a ranking system in-game and it shows you how you performed after every little segment. Doesn't that make it obvious to everyone that a big focus of the game is getting better at it as you go?

Doesn't change the fact that they have a limited time to become perfect at it. Reviewers have to play, judge, then write the review in a relatively short time compared to how it should be played.

Regardless, it's an unfair rating especially since that's the point in the game. Game reviewers tend to have this really horrible trait of hating things for what they are. Two examples from Game Informer: Persona 4 Arena is not "opening to casual players". ...ArcSys has never developed a "casual" fighting game. It's not meant to be a casual fighting game. It's meant to be a more in-depth fighting game. A similar case with Killer is Dead. They complained that the story didn't fall into place and didn't make much sense. While there are some things unexplained (and it's never unlike Suda to do that), it isn't the "overlooked" kind of unexplained. It's the "figure it out yourself" type of unexplained. The story itself was easily understandable if you looked between the lines.
