Many might be alarmed to learn of a homemade nuclear reactor being built next door. But what if this form of extreme DIY could help solve the world's energy crisis?

Oh man, I need to get in on this stuff.

Nuclear fusion?

D + D → He + energy

Or more accurate:

2 H-2 → He-4

That is all you need to know once you know the respective masses. :V

Getting the plasma to stay where you want it to stay is the tough part and I really think civilian initiatives can do very little to speed the process up. The scientists need to develop the technology.

Also, how do you add superscript and subscript on these fora?

Tis' impossible as Cleod has not bothered to do so. I suspect because he doesn't know that chemists, physicists and mathematicians of the forum might need them. That or the young'uns would abuse it.

Aw well, I'll just attach a PDF whenever I am in dire need of those.

Is Thai going to be a nuclear physicist?

I'll go on a limb here and adopt/pervert a speech Jeremy Clarkson once gave in reference to self-driving cars.

"Ya see, it's not that anyone is opposed to the idea of cheap, reliable energy, it's that everyone knows that sooner or later, they're going to be living near someone called Johnny. Whose reactor is going to break down one day, and he'll say "screw the price of getting a repair technician, I'll fix it myself."

...

Alright, didn't exactly work as I intended, but you get the gist of it.
