For the sake of SSF2 I wouldn’t mind an anime character in Smash. I feel like their inclusion in smash would take away some of the hate from SSF2 for including anime characters. That said, if I had to choose I’d pick Luffy over Goku. He seems to be the more popular character in Japan atm anyone, statistically speaking.i could totally be wrong tho

Perhaps, but Dragon Ball is a much more iconic anime internationally, and Goku would be the more logical choice as he'd appeal to a wider audience. Better promotion = better sales, generally speaking

EDIT: Also less backlash if anime were to make it in Smash due to Goku's worldwide recognition, which I don't feel like Luffy actually has

I actually feel like the opposite would occur and ungrateful fans would bash Sakurai for "tainting" the video game celebration that is Smash Bros with animu

Then I guess there would be the other bunch that would see it all as yet another Sakurai troll and simply roll with it, bringing the state of the cosmos back into balance

Dude, he's already deconfirmed.

Maybe if we're lucky the AT will get removed via update sometime after launch and our boy will be paid DLC.
