Sprites are forms of pixel art. Pillow shading is NEVER GOOD, for anything. Anime styles don't use pillow shading. Also, you don't DO JUS and KHR. You edit them like crap. Pixel art is the WORST art to pillow shade. You would get away with pillow shading sprites than pillow shading pixel art.

Don't tell me about this PA stuff because I know this better than you do.

Iunno, most people consider spriting and pixel art different. And I used a reference for the shading. So blame the internet, since I've already stated that I normally don't do pixel art.
And really, no need to be anal, seriously. If you're really going that perfectionist in this topic, then really you're calling every sprite topic in this whole subforum to be crap or worse.
Which a lot of people here won't appreciate, no matter how good you are. That's why the rules are to give constructive criticism. Read them please, it's not appreciated, probably by anyone.

This "most people" that you are refering to are the people that can't pixel well.

I'm not being a perfectionist. I don't even post in threads here that have almost no effort in making. I posted in this thread because you had potential. And seeing how you pillowed the PA, it just destroyed the PA. It was your mistake when you said "it's PA. so I pillow shaded."

Also, you're using too many colors that don't have that much contrast. And there is an overuse of black outlining in the sprite.

The way you worded it sounded condescending. Which gives that impression.

The only thing remotely pillowed is the hair on the first two, only from the attempt at shading the unruly hairstyle as taken from the reference.

And which sprite? In the PAs or in what?

Mugshots. I'll edit the hair just to show you what I mean. You have TOO many shades, seriously. You can shade it well with just 2 colors.

You have exceptional lineart though.

With 2 colors it'd be more like anime style, although iunno if that'd be better or not for an actual preview or something.

It isn't perfect, but it shows a working light source. It will probably look better if the rest of the sprite was in the style.

I didn't know what you wanted with the hair, if it was supposed to be spiky or what. You need to use proper shadowing when shading the face. Just look at how the headband was shaded. Now try.

The color contrast looks much better, however considering how spiky his hair is, and the roundness of the shading, it would probably be best to resprite the hair to look more natural.

Or to reshade the hair that is.
