Yea. As an advertising idea, some companies take some of their crappier products, and give them to GiveAwayoftheDay (GAoTD) to distribute for free, hoping that some of the downloaders at GAoTD will be interested in their product and buy the actual ones.

Most free commercial products are not so great and very very suspicious. Except the Youtube Downloader. That one is alright.
