No... Being able to control exactly when you boosted was a lot better than the system used in MKWii. Plus, there's no snaking with carts...

Have to say I liked the MK DS version of drift-boosting a lot more. If you were skilled enough you could do it multiple times around a single corner, where in Mario Kart Wii you just had to hope the corner was lengthy enough to get a boost going.

That's why there are bikes. Also, there are some stages in MKWii where you can snake in. Delfino Plaza, for one. The MKDS boosting is very complicated to me. Just saying.

Well to be fair, depth isn't usually as bad thing.
But when my freaking thumb feels like it's about to break the D-pad, I believe it's worth changed.
