Does anyone remember Sakurai mentioning a game mode where "players of different skill levels can benefit from one another?" I can't seem to find the source, but I remember him saying something along those lines. What do you think that's all about?

Maybe thay had problems displaying some assist trophies/Pokemons on the 3DS and thus decided to keep them for WiiU version only ?

I might sound a little dumb for saying this, but I expect the 3DS and WiiU version to have really close item counts, if filesize is a thing. I can see 3DS items being simpler, but still effective.

If anyone is expecting DLC, would it be reasonable to expect DLC items and assist trophies along with costumes and whatever peeps are expecting?

Probably DLC after the 3ds releases to hold off until the Wii U release

Yeah, I would assume so. If the 3DS had DLC before the Wii U version was out peeps would jump to conclusions about its content.
