Final thing I'm going to say in this: you listed pretty much the exact reason. You're the being that someone's parent grew up with. (In most cases)

You know things about the past of their parents that the kid doesn't know, you know interesting stories, maybe about how they met, how the mother was an ace in school but she will never admit it, how the father struggled to make ends meet, maybe even tales about grandparents!

To a kid - to me, at least, that's something special. An uncle can be a bundle of knowledge about those who came before.
