So I thought I'd sprite some random OC, so I did.

Now, I kinda need yer help here. And before you start b****' about how it has no shading at such, I'd like to clarify that he's like some kind of shadow. However, this doesn't mean there shouldn't be any shading. Because I think there should be shading, but I don't know where to put it.

In other words; help me out on the shading, please.

Start by selecting a light source. Official game sprites usually place the light source right in front, or at the back of a sprite. From there on, you can determine where the lightest parts will be, and where the darkers parts are.

To give the character a bit more 'a~bam chicka wow wa' and originality, I'd say, try to expiriment a bit, and place the light source above or even underneath the character. I think it might give really interesting results.

Thanks, Damian. I'll experiment a bit and see what I can do.

I personally think it looks good, but I wouldn't go for 'pure white' as a colour though.

If you feel uncomfortable, you can also searching for reference on google. Try searching 'shadow shading', or 'shadow cartoon character', and let the results influence the style you're creating. Combine various aspects of your references to create unique and new stuff. For example, you could take a look at this;

Well, I was banned for a month and then I came back. Kind of an anti-climax, yeah.

So, um, and I ask for your honesty right now, if I made him better and sheeted him and stuff, do you think he could be an expansion?

Personally, I always advise against getting ahead of yourself. First master the fundamental parts of the art of spriting, then start to sheet bit by bit. Know your limits and what not. Or just go Bruce Lee and ignore limits, for they are only in your head.

But overall yeah, he can. He looks like a swell dude.

Alright. And yes, I am only a beginner and I'm not planning on actually making him an expansion/character/s*** until I am more experienced.

He has some crazy cool and scary hook hand thing, or is that not supposed to be there?

Yes, it's supposed to be there. He has a hook hand, b****, your argument is invalid.

Everything about it (him?) is very stiff. The floating is good, but you should try other things, like relaxing the hook hand a bit. Even though this "thing" is probably dead, the hand position looks awfully uncomfortable.
