I'm going to agree with this. Starting with night time means that the murders are going to be practically baseless and the debates about who's in the mafia will also be based on non-information which would probably result in an innocent death.

Actually, in most games of Mafia it starts at night. This way the moment the game begins, characters with night roles such as Watcher and Cop already have information to give to the townspeople the moment the game starts.

Hmmm... That might actually be a better way to do it. This would allow us to avoid the usual first day random lynch, which could very well lead to a townie death. On the other hand, it does present the disadvantage of giving the mafia a free kill to start the game off with. Is the advantage of having watcher and cop info for the first lynch greater than that?

Having night time first gives the Mafia and Serial killer the advantage. They can pick off someone in practically complete safety. The Watcher and Cop however can only look at someone, and even then, the Cop can't really be sure that what they're seeing is accurate and the watcher can only see who visits who, nothing much to build on initially either. Frankly, I say let there be a few slip ups first before people waste their 'evening'.

That said, I'm not entirely sure I fully understand all this stuff about "visiting" and so maybe I'm talking in ignorance.
