Look OP, you're in eighth grade. Not even in high school yet, but you're almost there. That makes you roughly 13-15, I believe? Chances are you haven't exited puberty yet, which means your hormones are probably on the fritz and causing you to over think girl situations. Trust me when I say you're better off holding off on the pursuit of happiness at least until your Sophomore year, late freshman year if you're that desperate. By then you'll be in your mid-late teens, have school under control and have more free time to actually be with the girl. Probably a job by then as well. Puppy love like flings in eighth grade do more harm than good most of the time, and waiting until you've grown a bit does not "stunt your growth". It doesn't mean you should avoid girls altogether, you can still flirt or do whatever it is you do, but you have to just remind yourself that it's probably not the best time to have a relationship.

If you've known her for 4 years and never talk to her, that means you don't know her. The person she allows the public to see doesn't necessarily reflect who she really is. Do you even know the person you're chasing after? You should decide that you want to peruse her AFTER you know her, not before. That's a very direct road to Heartbreak Blvd., and that's the last thing you need at your age. One tragic breakup could really mess you up for years. You don't need to cannonball into the pool, just wade in slowly.

Last piece of advice, figure yourself out before you decide to pursue girls. Figure out the type of person you want to be, and the type of person you want other people to perceive you as. Once you've done that and gained that level of confidence, relationship stuff comes naturally. So then you won't be tempted to ask an online forum haha. Honestly if you're able to do this earlier than later, you should be fine dating. But from what I gather, you aren't. Most people aren't in eighth grade. Don't rush your adolescence. Enjoy the carefree life of middle school and high school, don't be so quick to seize such a huge responsibility.

Touche. I suppose where we differ is how we approach this situation. I had one of those "tragic breakups" as a kid and I still say jump right in. I enjoyed the f*** out of that relationship, and the lessons learned through it served me throughout the rest of middle/high school.

Yeah, that's true. It probably boils down to how you are as a person, and what you're able to deal with. That's probably something that the OP will have to figure out on his own.

This is so truth, look, my life ranks 1 OKs out of 5, I've had one girlfriend, she broke up with me for "literally no reason, so stop being pouty" like 8 days before we were dating for a year. It was the best almost-a-year of my life, and I would do it over again the same way every time just because how awesome it was for that time. There is nothing better in life then to have someone you can be awkwardly yourself around, not like your friend there, either, because he sounds like the kind of guy you can't tell things that matter, if only it feels wrong to do so.

And for God's sake make the first move, because if she doesn't even notice you, she won't.
