First thing that came to my mind when i saw/read this
 It literally sounds like this anime but with a little twist of "Elfen Lied" and "Death Note" to it. Comparisons: -There are Contestants killing each other for something powerful (The Holy Grail but in here is the God of time and space) -The main protagonists have a love story behind them (Shirou and Saber = Yuki and Yuno) -The female friend/lover will go bonkers and tries to kill or succeeds to kill anyone who tries to get near or love the protagonist (Lucy from Elfen Lied protecting Kouta) Correct me if im wrong but that is my first impression on what it feels like |
