I'll just give you some advice I use when playing Yoshi. Yoshi is an unusual character, like really weird. He has a mostly vertical oriented combo game unlike most Smash games where he has a bit more space for creativity, so you'll have to get used to his slow ground mobility. He makes up for it in air speed though. You'll be killing with your smashes and fair alot, so be prepared to go fishing. DJC is something that I may wanna mention too. It's honestly a technique I never really got into due to the lack of having Melee or PM avaliable, but it's present here. You might wanna ask more experienced Yoshi players to get familiar with it if ya wanna know more. For starters, using nair as an approach is poor. Only use it OoS and when you know it's gonna hit. Fair is good for combo's and meteors. Dair is amazing and getting %'s up and gimping on some occasions. Bair is highly situational in pretty much only good for spacing to a certain degree. Uair is only good for juggling, nothing else. It's hitbox is rather large compared to most of Yoshi's other aerials, so it's pretty useful if you get them up there. Egg Lay is good for mixups since it's both faster than your grab and can be used in midair. Egg Roll is surprisingly good for getting damage too since you have a great degree of control over it and it's hitbox is pretty huge as well. Yoshi Bomb is surprisingly all purpose. You can use it to get outta juggles, it's great for mixups, a combo tool, it's fast, and it does decent damage. I honestly use this move alot Egg Throw is awesome for all characters that don't have a reflector, no seriously. These eggs cover your body like Mega Man's Leaf Shield if you spam it, plus they have pretty high priority for their size. Useful for recovering too. Usmash is good for damage and getting kills at higher %'s It's priority and speed is pretty insane too. But sadly, it's range and power is really low. You can also use it for combo's, so that's good. Fsmash is good for killing and maybe damage, that's it in a nutshell. It has pretty solid range for it's speed too. Dsmash is your best killer. It launches foes at a semispike which most won't come back from if near the ledge. It has the best general range of his smashes, but it's also his slowest. Still pretty fast for a smash though. Dtilt is good for spacing and has great range... that's pretty much it lol. Ftilt is a great combo tool, but personally, I can't use it because I use Auto Dash. Utilt is amazing for setting up juggles. When considering that you practically get a uair followup everytime, it's pretty good to use. Too bad it only really covers above and a little bit in front. Well that's all I can think of. Hope this helps you and all Yoshi players a bit.

Nair isn't that bad of an approach if you mix in DJ shenanigans (like run at them, jump away, reverse DJ reverse nair in). If you do a rising nair, you can make it really hard to punish, and it KO's fairly early when sweetspotted. You can also drop down and rising nair to edgeguard certain recoveries, as it creates a giant wall of Yoshi. Agreed with the rest.
Something else I'll add is that DJ is really useful as a defensive option: you can DJ to escape pressure, land safely, recover safely, and parry hits. Yoshi lives fairly long and has some of the highest damage output in the game off of successful hit confirms, so trades are almost always in your favor.

Shameless plug to revive the thread: here's a new video I made that I think shows some of Yoshi's combo and damage output potential well.

Yep. They have advantages and disadvantage in this game versus Melee, though:
Pros: * No double jump required, so you can't SD if you mess up * You can waveland onstage with the move, so you get a new mobility option * You have more freedom with your position: you can even dodge a lot of attacks that try to hit you off the edge
Cons: * No residual edge invincibility

As stated by TheCodeSamurai, Ledge-canceled Eggthrow is easily doable. https://www.dropbox.com/s/gwtyq8em0umyp ... sfrec?dl=0I used the Keyboard for this- TapJump on- From currently hanging on the ledge I jump, keeping up/jump pressed either activate EggThrow, or fall back onto the ledge. Then while Holding Up/jump on my keyboard, I press back->release back->press Special- and *voila* EggThrow canceled Ledge grab. Rinse and repeat 7:42 - what not to do 7:24 - what to do

I am proud to announce the second (or maybe third?) character-specific SSF2 guide. If you want to learn Yoshi as a secondary or a main, or just want an introduction to SSF2 and don't know where to start, check it out! The Awesomest Yoshi Guide in Existence!

Is the time of yoshi's egg lay the same all the time or can the opponent mash out of it?

Technically yes. However, Ive only seen Masky perform it ( shudders), and I dont have to explain why, right? Its pretty much frame perfect. However, Yoshi has another combo: Jab1->Jab2->Grab->Grab Release->FSmash/DSmash. If done right, this is a pretty much guaranteed combo unless youre and Link gets completely destryoed by that. Guaranteed death at enough % if near to the edge as well.

<3 Nspec does not infinite without frame perfection, and even that can be stopped by Marth's Fair. An alternative to Nspec->Nspec->etc. (And my preference) is Nspec->(run-away, grounded, reverse) Uspec->Nspec->etc.

That was... disgusting to watch I still wonder that you never did anything with the replay. And idk if it was a bug, but Egg Lay acrually goes way farther than its visual hitbox^^ Kinda doesnt surprise me tho that Marth can get out of it, I mean hes Marth. Enough of a reason.
