The amount of 3rd party Mii costumes is pretty suprising in general. I'm not too interested in costume DLC myself but they look cool. I wonder if they'll include other 3rd party properties like Soul Caliber, Ace Attorney or Fighting Vipers as Mii costumes.

Well, Namco was involved in making Sm4sh, so it's not that unheard of.

it's not totally out there but it's still a bit surprising that a niche rpg series from another company is getting representation one that just had a PS3 re-release, no less

Did you miss the part where Symphonia sold over a million copies worldwide and both the GameCube and PS2 versions got "best of" reprints in Japan
Don't have any proper figures but I know it's sold a s*** more than say, Xenoblade
it's not as "niche" as you think. not every RPG has to do Final Fantasy numbers
A costume from it being available is only "shocking" if you're very easily shocked

xenoblade is also more or less a first party franchise, and it was limited in number, hence the smaller sales it might have sold well in comparison to quite a few games but lloyd is not nearly as iconic as mega man, sonic, pac-man, or ryu.
i'm not jaw-droppingly shocked, just mildly. it was a small surprise that lloyd got a costume. i would have expected something from Soul Calibur before we got a Lloyd one or something from Xenosaga considering Namco really likes to suck that game's dick for some weird reason

Regardless of whatever other consoles they shoved it on, Symphonia was an important title for the Gamecube at one point. RPGs have been hard to come by on Nintendo consoles ever since all the devs jumped ship to the Playstation because it used discs
Remember that Paper Mario was pretty much the only worthwhile RPG on the N64 and you'll see why people praise games like ToS and Xenoblade so much

while it was popular, Symphonia's importance is definitely overestimated it was a really noteworthy title, yeah, and it got a sequel on the Wii, but in my opinion it's really not that big and the idea of a costume being in Smash is surprising considering that it's not a super popular series i mean if it got a costume after Soul Calibur or even Dig Dug then i wouldn't have been as surprised but seeing it get one before two said franchises is the main point in it being a shocker although it is hilarious how people actually thought lloyd had a higher chance than pac-man pre-release. what is this, ssf2?

It's not overestimated at all lmao, name the other good JRPGs on the Gamecube
Compare them to the JRPGs on the PS2

ok, yes, there are a lot more JRPGs on the PS2 than the Gamecube and they were kind of rare Symphonia didn't save the series or anything though. it's no longer an exclusive. it's better on other consoles.
and ninty's biggest RPG on the console still has little more than a stage on the 3DS version.

they're probably making costumes of the popular choices that they know they won't use as actual characters, yeah the balot ends in october though so that'll be when they announce the new character(s)
