Update. I screwed up the arm on our right, but all that rotating and editing trying to get it right was making me cringe. I'll change it, but god that was annoying to deal with.

FINALLY got the arm on our right to looks good. Or at least least acceptable. I think that's it for this portion. Thoughts?

I actually tried that, and I couldn't get it to look right for the life of me. I may try it again, but I'm not sure.

Taking a minor break from Zero to learn how to design better. It'll be like 2 or 3 days.

This is a character for a game idea that I'm revamping. She still needs a name, but some other stuff has already been figured out.

How does it look?

Those are some long legs...


They're like twice as long as the torso, and the arms become nubs because of it.

Long legs aren't a problem, it's that the arm looks to short in comparison. In fact shorting the legs probably won't fix that issue, the arm is just too stubby, probably from poor foreshortening. An admittedly hard thing to do with small sprites with out lines. It currently looks like you're trying to point the elbow straight away from the camera, but since your character isn't pointed straight at the camera it means she's not so much pointing her elbow straight back, but more to the spine instead of away like a normal person.

I'd suggest just giving the arm more room out to the side as well as giving the top part of it a slightly less steep incline. Also, the hair seems really cling to the head. In general the head just seems slightly off. Just a little small maybe, or, actually that it's turned completely to the side when her body isn't. You should make the head facing us a bit more, at least to the point were her other eye is just viable, (even if then get covered by hair).

Arms are better, but IMO the legs are still way too long. They dwarf the torso by a large margin.

Leg length is neither here nor there as a point of style, after all your sprites often seem to have very short legs. Besides some times people just have very long legs. Either way though, if you put her in an editor she comes out to right under six heads tall which is typically the proportion you want on a female. (Remember the top of her head is not the top of her hair).

Her head is 1 head, torso (from the neck to the bottom of the pelvis exactly) is two heads, The legs the cover two more heads, with a little extra for the hip/ankles, which, if you measure yourself is the leg to torso ratio you probably have. The thing that pushes the envelope is the really big feet, which, again, is a stylistic choice if intentional.

What still bothers me is the head. It still doesn't seem like it fits with the rest of the sprite. I can see it changed but it still looks like it's facing straight to the side. I've whipped up something along the lines I was thinking, which makes the head look bigger, by shrinking it, has the hair making a bit more sense, and trying, but I think failing, at trying to shade the hair like the rest of the sprite.

Looking at it I'm not sure I made it look like it was facing more towards us at x1 because I tried to make her hair hang in her face... But I know I did at ~x3 since you can actually see the purple in her other eye. Whatever, hopefully you can find something to take away in the big ol' thing of text.

EDIT: I think perhaps an actual neck 1 pixel tall neck might help as well.

There you go, that head is definitely much better. And I think you are fine on the legs either way you go.

Now that that is solved, what are you going for with the other arm. Is she supposed to not have one, or were you just waiting to add it afterwards, because reasons?
